Autopsy pending for racer killed at Sycamore Speedway on Friday

Results of an autopsy are pending, in the death of a driver during a race at the Sycamore Speedway on Friday night.

47-year-old Timothy Erjavac of Morton Grove was injured and left trapped in his vehicle about 11:15 p.m.  The Kane County Sheriff’s Office says he was extricated and taken by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller says an autopsy is being conducted Monday.

Erjavac was taking part in a Figure 8 race, a type of demolition derby in which cars travel in a Figure 8 pattern – and often collide with each other at the center intersection.

Because of this incident, and the threat of rain, the remainder of the racing schedule was cancelled.

Erjavac was a regular participant in Sycamore Speedway races, and a number of on-line tributes have been posted by friends and fans.
